  1. Windows License Per Core Usage - Software License Reporting

Since SPLA has changed to cost per core vs cost per CPU, it is necessary to display core count vs virtual machine count under Software Licenses.

  2. WHMCS OnApp VPS module bandwidth configuration

We need to be able to set predefined bandwidth limits and to have module take action when this predefined limit is exceeded that includes warnings of limits being reached, suspension of service once reached, unsuspension of service when product/service renews, or if more bandwidth is added to vm.

  3. Define where OVAs are stored when uploaded to a vCenter Resource

Add ability to define where OVAs are uploaded when deploying new VMs to a vCenter compute resource.

When an OVA is deployed to a vCenter, the OVA is first uploaded to vCenter and placed in the default resource pool with a unique identifier.

This should be configurable on each vCenter Compute Resource, to allow you to define a resource pool and/or folder to store OnApp OVAs that are used for VM deployment.

  4. Improve Management for Basic Edge Gateways

OnApp allows managing some Basic Edge services (NAT, Firewall and VPN).

Add a possibility to manage all services (including Distributed Logical Routing) via OnApp

List of services to add - DHCP, Static Routing, Load Balancer.

  5. Speedup auto backups by using existing instances of daily backups for weekly, monthly, yearly copies.

If there is configured a daily backups schedule, successfully created daily backup can be easily turned in to copies of other longer periods. No need wasting time and resources for creating separate instances executing weekly, monthly or yearly schedules. Just use existing daily copy instead of removing it on next turn.

  6. Provide an ability to disable or hide certain IP address within an existing IP range.

In some cases, we need to reserve ( hide or make disabled ) a single IP or multiple such IPs in the existing range. This is useful to prevent picking chosen IPs during new server creation. Applicable to some IPs which are temporarily not usable due to been blocked by spam defenders or attacked by a botnet.

  7. RAM price in GB

Migrate RAM prices to GB instead of MB. If we want to convert MB to GB then 1/1024 comes out to be 0.0009765625 which is 10 decimal points which breaks OnApp precision hard limit which is set to 8.

  8. Support for 4Kn sector size HDD drives natively for static HVs

Currently, OnApp does not support 4Kn sector size HDD drives for Static Hypervisors, and we need to do a workaround for OnApp to use 4Kn sector size drives.

This workaround is to have the OS detect the drive via local ISCSI.

This has major drawbacks that affect production systems which are

    1. Degrades IOPS
    2. ISCSI links get overloaded too often causing the Hypervisor to hang all virtual machines, dropping the storage links.
    3. IO is very expensive, this method degrades it more

Hope OnApp supports this so we can let go of using ISCSI for local storage just to…

  9. Make Smart Servers Smart

Smart Servers as things stand, aren't really that smart. They are barely different from Bare Metal servers in any useful sense.

When deploying Smart Servers we should have the option of using NIC passthrough or not. If we chose not to use it, then we should retain the very useful features of Firewall and bandwidth monitoring.

Without this it becomes very tedious to monitor bandwidth over a fleet of Smart Servers - we'd have to monitor when a machine changes HV, change the mapping of switch port to server in our billing platform (taking in to account the bandwidth already…

  10. Make LVM snapshot size configurable for backups

Currently, when a backup is created, a LVM snapshot of the disk is made. This snapshot has the same size as the original.

This means you need to leave a *lot* of free space on each data store. Since a backup will complete in a relatively short amount of time, the snapshot will never fill for more than a few percent.

So, I'd like to have smaller LVM snapshots when taking backups. Perferably a configurable percentage of the original disk size.

    --

Lvm snapshot`s Create as full disk size. One moment 3-4 backup from one storage used 500-700 GB and…

  11. Add Smart server support to WHMCS module

Smart servers aren't supported on the WHMCS module - for a provider selling both this causes issues with UX.

  12. Integrated storage features on virtual machine overview page

It would be helpful if the virtual machine overview page had some alerts if the underlying disks were, for example, not optimised for local read path or degraded and the ability to balance/resync were possible as currently it's a fairly complicated process to find where the VM would need to be placed to re-gain its local read path and the 'migrate virtual machine' option does not always place by default to a local read path HV.

  13. Relative links for VM resources

It would be good to be able to specify relative links for VM resources per server - to avoid allowing customers to build servers with almost no cpu but purchase all the ram available on that compute resource for example. I could try and use min/max but it is per zone and per user so there is no way to do it per virtual server.

  14. Smart Server deployment should have the option to skip the VM deployment wizard

You should be able to disable deploying smart servers as VMs by the end user, otherwise they could choose to create a tiny smart server that takes up a whole Hypervisor. Better to simply deploy to the entire HV and have a setting where the admin can reserve an amount for future expansion as a defult setting if they wish.

  15. Adding multiple IP

Adding multiple IP at the same time, either by selecting more than one or just selecting the number you want to add would be a great addition, as many times we need to add large number of IP's and it's very time consuming and cumbersome

  16. Add OPNsense template

OPNsense is a fork of pfSense (which is already available as a template in OnApp). Many of our customers would love to use OPNsense within OnApp.
    See https://opnsense.org for details.

  17. retry when backups failed

I would like on the OnApp Cloud platform, when a backup fails (sometimes by timeout), you can retry the backup, because when you have many clients with VPS, the backup must be manually executed (not waiting until the next scheduled one will be taken).

    Thank you.

  18. Introduce warnings about template upgrades

A lot of customers are not doing regular template upgrades, the upgrade screen is hidden, it would be a good idea to warn about available template upgrades on the dashboard or anywhere you see fit.

  19. Clone server from backup 2+ disks

The task is that the user wants to restore the backup of the current server to a new virtual machine, and everything is fine if the user has an entire server from one disk (then the task is simple, we make the template and roll the whole server out of it ).
But what should a client do if his server consists of several disks? He can clone the system, but how to get the remaining disks from backups?
Then I take out a large "saw" and climb into the database by changing the backup target disk to the new…

  20. Ability to select GRUB entries from CP server

Usually for every attempt to start a VS based on a Linux distribution template, OnApp uses pygrub to alway boot the default grub menu option. It would be nice if from the CP server the user had the option to choose previous kernel entries in the grub menu.

With how OnApp currently works, selecting previous grub menu items requires a lengthy process booting into rescue image and manually changing the grub.conf.
