  1. Advanced monitoring

Functionality to get, keep and show in real time the stats from the compute resource

    Compute resource level:

    - CPU: Total Available & Total Utilized
    - Memory: Total Available, Total Utilized, Ballooning amount

    Virtual Server level:

    - CPU: Total Utilized on the hypervisors
    - Memory: Total Utilized on the hypervisors.

Ability to select metrics and period for which to show it.

  2. XEN to KVM migration

Possibility to migrate a Virtual Server from XEN to KVM as KVM is having more features and usually showing better performance.

  3. Kubernetes (K8S) support

Kubernetes support needs a different approach than standard VS operations. Here are the required functionalities.

    1. Default current image for Rancher, CoreOS, Centos Atomic (The images needs to be downloaded directly from the repos, no need to keep the image disks). No backup no setting IP is required for the VM's you only need to mount CD with cloudinit script so the VM will have the required parameters. (ip, hostname, key, user, pass)
    2. CloudINIT support (edit cloudinit config for image operations)
    3. flexVolume support by onapp, so persistent disks can be provided to the pods,
    4. ability to use…

  4. Nested multi-tenancy

The ability to provide isolated set of resources to multiple customers (tenants) from a single infrastructure. Each tenant has its own admin-like access to compute, storage, and networking, and the ability to customize the look and feel.
Each tenant can further subdivide resources to sub-tenants with isolation maintained.

  5. Object storage

Object storage as a service. All new web apps are using object storage. Would be an easy sell to end users.

  6. Firewall Groups

Create the templates of firewall rules and let the templates be arranged into groups. The groups can be later applied to virtual machines.

  7. Autoscale vCPU

Currently, there is no option to autoscale vCPUs. It would be extremely valuable to have the option to autoscale cpu depending on usage, similar to memory and disk.

  8. QCOW2 or RAW image disk files

storing the files in qcow2,raw,vmdk file format would be really good and beneficial for our operations, than we can use NFS or Local storages for VS disks..

  9. Virtual Server Groupping

Create and manage multiple virtual servers as a whole. This might include the following:
    - Ability to spin up more then one server during the VS creation wizard
    - Group the VS together with a custom name
    - Group by function type, for example web servers, DB servers, etc.
    - Group by application, for example Web1 + Web2 + DB1 + DB2 + LoadBalancer1 + LoadBalancer2 + Redis1 + Redis2

  10. Terraform Provider

Be able to deploy to OnApp based infrastructure using Terraform with OnApp as a provider.
This will be great for our customers who are looking to deploy "cloud native" and automate their infrastructure. Helps us compete with AWS/Azure/GCP.

  11. swap partition to local disks

would be perfect to have the option to store the Swap partition to local disks,
Like you create a VM and you give 40GB root partition 8 GB Swap partition on the beginning, would be really perfect if we can assign the local resources for the swap partition(not using the storage)
since live migration on datastore are available this should not be a big problem..

  12. nested virtualisation

is it possible that we enable nested virtualisation for The VM's.. On the hypervisor we can create that but when the VM's are created Onapp is using its own templates for VM's..
    why it is needed..
    * provisioning tests
    * testing Hypervisors

  13. Ability to share a disk (assign disk to multiple virtual machines)

For cluster environments we need to have the ability to share file system partitions between nodes within a cluster.

We currently work around this issue by creating a separate virtual machine which exports an iSCSI device. This device is then mounted on each node using OCFS2 on the iSCSI target.

This setup does not provide optimal performance. We would like to have the ability to create a virtual disk within OnApp which we can assign to multiple virtual machines directly.

    ---

We would use this in combination with OCFS2 or GFS2 to share data in cluster environments for large website.…

  14. Integrated Storage on Cloudboot Backup Server

In the 6.1 release notes there is this entry.

CORE-14009 | Now you can run Integrated Storage on the backup servers.

In our tests we were unable to use integrated storage with cloudboot backup servers.

According to the documentation it seems as if this is only available on static boot backup servers: https://docs.onapp.com/agm/latest/backup-settings/backup-servers-settings/manage-backup-servers-devices

You should add support for cloudboot backup servers to be able to assign disks to integrated storage as well.

  15. Thin provision - trim for integrated storage

We miss the opportunity to do real thin provisioning towards integrated storage. As for today a disk can only grow in size and empty space is never reclaimed for the storage.

  16. Ability to lock or suspend individual VMs

As a System Administrator I would like the ability to be able to lock a VM in a particualr power state to prevent a user from powering a VM on once it is shutoff.

Currently the only way to prevent a user from powering on a shutdown VM is to suspend the user, however, suspending a user shuts down all their VMs.

  20. Put VMs in suspended state when a User is suspended. Do not stop VM.

We would like the VMs of suspended users not to be stopped, but instead suspended.

The reason for this is when a user runs out of credits, the user is suspended and their VM is powered off. However when they add credits, the VM stays powered off. This results in angry clients and extra support tickets to investigate and start their server again.

Please change this to make VMs be put in a suspended state when a user is suspended and have VMs unsuspended when the user adds more credits.

KVM supports this via "virsh suspend and resume"

    API Call…
